National Prevention Week 2026- Celebrating Possibility
May 10-16 is National Prevention Week - a time to showcase local and national efforts to prevent harms associated with substance use and to promote partnership and collaboration throughout our region. This year’s theme, highlighted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is “Celebrating Possibility.” In alignment with this year’s theme, SAMHSA is offering several webinars to increase awareness and knowledge about the possibilities of prevention. Learn more about upcoming opportunities.
This theme also calls us to celebrate the many successes in our Recovery Ecosystem and to look ahead at how we can continue to work together to create a healthier, more connected New River Valley.
Celebrating Progress
First, let’s take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come. Since its inception in 2023, the Recovery Ecosystem has grown and connected dozens of partner organizations to promote recovery and reduce harms from the opioid crisis. Check out all the partner organizations who play a role in connecting our communities and supporting recovery in our region:
Recovery Ecosystem partners connect community members and organizations to critical local resources, harm reduction services, peer centers to connect with people with lived experience, and training and education opportunities. Each partner organization builds our capacity to work together, learn from each other, and promote well-being in our region. These partnerships are critical to prevention efforts; we cannot address the opioid crisis on our own.
Looking Ahead
Community members can support prevention efforts by educating themselves, supporting community partners, and staying connected with our Recovery Ecosystem. There are several ways to stay informed about the work of the NRV Recovery Ecosystem and to promote prevention efforts in our region. To stay up to date, consider subscribing to the Recovery Ecosystem newsletter or following us on Instagram and Facebook. To learn more about local work and get involved, contact achampion@nrvrc.org.
